A System on Module (SoM) is the core of modern embedded systems. It is a compact, interchangeable hardware platform that combines all essential computer components – in a space-saving and powerful format.

A SoM combines the most important building blocks of a computer system in one module:

  • Processor / SoC (System on Chip) with CPU and GPU
  • RAM (Random Access Memory)
  • Non-volatile memory (Flash / eMMC)
  • Peripheral interfaces such as USB, PCIe, HDMI, display connectors, wireless modules
  • often including integrated graphics, memory controllers, and security functions
  • Bootloader and driver support
